CIRCULATION

Designing the circulation on our tank had it's share of hurdles. Our sump room is located in our garage, which is approximately 70 feet away from the main display tank in the house. The plumbing to and from the display tank runs through the wall behind the tank, behind the master bath tub, out the side of the house, heads underground (under the sidewalk twice) and into the sump room located in the garage.

The main tank circulation is from 3 separate pumps. First is a Sequence Barracuda pump which provides about 4000 gph of flow from the sump to the display tank. This is run using 2” PVC from the sump all the way to the display tank and enters the tank through 4 spots in the top of the tank- each of which is split to 2 loclines.

The main tank also has 2 Sequence Dart pumps for closed loops. The first is plumbed into an Oceans Motions 4way which feeds the 4 “rock structures” which are foam covered PVC stands for the live rock to sit on and provides excellent random flow. There are a total of 20 locline fitting froom this pump.

Here you can see the PVC supporting rock structures in the tank during initial fill up.

The 2nd closed loop pump returns from 4 locline fittings located on the front and sides of the overflows. These are static outputs but each locline is split into 2 for a total of 8 outputs.
